Sabato, 1 Settembre 2007

I'm safe in Venice. I got here yesterday at about 5 and found my hostel right away without a map, just by asking people what direction to go. It was great. I also found a photo store to buy film in, which took about an hour to find. But I'm in a neighborhood outside of Venice, and its really nice here. It feels a lot like Eugene actually. The streets are much wider and there's lots of green things! I met two kids from San Fransisco, and we took the train into Venice last night and had dinner at an Argentine resturaunt. And on the way there, a crazy brazillian woman told me that English is the language that is going to carry on the world and to be proud that I'm American. Then she asked me, and only me, if I wanted to come see her house. Haha. She was the first creepy woman I've encountered here, the rest of the creepers are men.
So yea, I've got my phone if you want to give me a call. I got some good sleep last night, and we're about to go back into Venice for the day. I'll be here until Monday morning, and then will head down to Bologna to meet a friend.

I'm all done with classes! I packed today, and my bag weighs 59 lbs. Woops. Tony is very nice to be taking it for me! I leave Perugia tomorrow and head up to Venice. I just made reservations for a hostile right outside of Venice for three nights. Then I will either head down to Bologna to meet a friend, or go straight to Cinque Terre. And then I'm meeting some Oregonions in Rome on the 8th. They all leave on the 10th, and I leave on the 11th, so I'm staying with a friend of mine (Brooke, from Gig Harbor) on the 10th. My flight leaves at 9:00pm on the 11th to Amsterdam, and then I have an 8 hour layover before I head back to the states. I stop in some city there, but I forget what its called. I'll write in my blog if I have the chance, but if not, I'll write a long post when I get home! Ciao ciao...

So my plans have changed a bit. I'm not entirely sure where or when I will be traveling, but I will be exploring Italy on my own for a little while (somewhere between the 30th of August and the 8th of September). I'm pretty sure I'll be in Venice and hopefully Cinque Terre during those days, but who knows? I'm going to borrow a guide book that has a bunch of hostles in it, so when I get to cities, I can find somewhere to sleep, and I know that when I get to Rome on the 8th, I'll be meeting up with some people from the Perugia program until I leave on the 11th. I was really looking forward to traveling with Craig, Liz, and Rich, but our plans were getting too complicated for me, and I think it will be a good adventure for me to do some exploring on my own. And I'm really glad that I'll have my cell phone with me as well. So, if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go or what to see (prefferably in Cinque Terre and Venice), let me know!

Today I've got some pictures from my notebook that I've been drawing during class...

And here's some pictures from Firenze and Assisi. The first is side-walk-chalk from outside an art school in Firenze. Definitely the most hard core side-walk-chalk I've ever seen! The second is actually six pictures of the main duomo in Firenze put into one, so its kindof funky looking, but whatever... And the last two are from the top of a tower above Assisi.

Here's a video of my walk from school to my apartment. I had to speed it up so it wouldn't last twenty minutes, so I'm sorry if it makes you sick or anything. I think thats fair enough warning. But its got cool music that goes along with it!

mercoledi, 1 agosto, 2007

Last night I got home, and my new roommate (who I hadn't met yet, because I had been gone all afternoon for class, and all evening/night for a dinner with everyone from the program and then Centro) locked me out of the apartment. I had my key, but when I opened the door, it would only open about three inches because she put that extra lock thing over the door. So I sat in the hallway with the door partway open and rang the bell for a few minutes with no response, and then gave up. I went and met Jordan and Phillip, and we decided to try again, and if it didn't work I would sleep at there place. So we tried for another five minutes or so and she finally got up and let me in. It was probably the most awkward roommate meeting I've ever experienced, and I don't remember her name. So I guess we're off to a good start! Right?
Anyway, here's the video from our trip to Gubbio last Saturday! Its not a very good video, but there's some really funny parts

And here's a video that a few guys from UofO made for their term project. Its all in Italian, but it shows lots of things from Perugia... although some of the places are closed... but yea, watch it!
